Bintube Emerges Jaiz Bank’s New Board Chairman

BY EDMOND ODOK – Nigeria’s pioneer non-interest bank, Jaiz Bank Plc, has appointed Mohammed Mustapha Bintube as the new Chairman of its Board of Directors.

A statement from the Bank said Bintube’s appointment was confirmed after his recommendation was approved by the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN).

According to the statement, prior to assuming this new role, Bintube was a shareholder and the pioneer Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Jaiz Bank between 2011 and 2013.

Currently, he is the Chairman of Buraq Capital Limited from 2014 till date; the Chairman, Board of Directors of Emerging Africa Trustees Limited from 2022 till date; Chairman, Board of Directors of Neelds Realty from 2021till date; and Chairman, Qalam Travels and Tours from 2021 till date.

Described as a consummate banker, Bintube holds a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from the Ahmadu Bello University (ABU), Zaria (1981) and an Advance Diploma in Banking and Finance from Fin-Africa, Milan, Italy (1989).

Bintube’s career path has seen his appointment as the Chairman, Board Credit & Governance Committee of the Bank of Industry from 2017 to 2022; Chairman, Board Licensing & Regulatory Committee of the Nigeria Communications Commission from 2010 to 2015; and Chairman, Board Finance & General Purpose Committee of the Nigerian-Reinsurance Corporation from 1991 to 1993.

With over three decades in the banking industry, his career began as Principal Manager, Commercial Bank Credit Lyonnaise (1989 – 1995); Assistant General Manager, Commercial Bank Credit Lyonnaise (1995 – 1997); Deputy General Manager, FSB International Bank (1997 – 1999); and General Manager, FSB International Bank (1999 – 2001).

The new Board Chairman’s career further blossomed in the banking industry with his promotion to the rank of Executive Director at the FSB International Bank and he served in that capacity from 2001 to 2004. Bintube is an alumnus of Wharton Business School (USA), Columbia Business School (USA), and INSEAD (France).
