Birnin-Gwari: Armed Bandits Abduct Housewives In Maganda
Three housewives were at the weekend abducted in Maganda village despite the Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lt General Tukur Buratai’s order for soldiers stationed in the Birnin-Gwari axis of Kaduna State to flush out armed bandits terrorizing and killing people in the area.
A top member of Birnin-Gwari Vanguards for Security and Good Governance, who pleaded anonymity, said the bandits attack the village and carried out nefarious activities in the early hours of Saturday.
“Last night around 1.30 am, some armed bandits invaded Maganda community and started shooting sporadically. After a while they invaded the residence of Alhaji Adamu Nakwalla and abducted three wives. They later released one of the wives with a telephone number to contact them
“Before the incident, they had sent a warning message to the people in the community that they would come soon.
“No life was lost, but a young man in the community sustained bullet injury”
According to the source, “at the time of the attack, there was no security post or security personnel in Maganda. In fact, we have no single police post in the area.”
So far, many communities in Birnin Gwari local government of Kaduna State have, between January and May this year, come under serious attacks by armed bandits.
Media reports have repeatedly shown that the attackers seem to be picking villages at random, without any pointer to the reason behind their choice of locations.
As at the last count, reports indicate that both thickly and sparsely populated communities have come under the bandits’ attack with some of them looted and houses burnt, while others were spared the agony of destruction.
In less than five months, the casualty figures shows an alarming number with no less than 162 persons either shot or stabbed to death, including 11 soldiers who were ambushed and killed by the bandits.
