Bishop Emmah Isong Tasks FG On Functional Cottage Industries
BY UBON EKANEM, CALABAR – A respected Clergyman and President of the Christian Central Chapel (CCC), Bishop Emmah Gospel Isong has tasked the Federal Government to set up 774 cottage industries as a back up to the successful implementation of the Supreme Court ruling granting full autonomy to local governments councils in the country.
He said the government needs to back up the apex Court’s pronouncement with proactive steps that will make the Local Government Councils independent and self-subsistent in many areas.
Speaking at the ongoing Anniversary/Elevation Free Indeed Conference in Calabar, the Cross River State capital, Bishop Isong said with functional and efficiently operated small scale industries in place across the 774 local government areas nationwide, Nigerians would undoubtedly reap the benefits of their autonomy status away from State governments’ undue influence.
Bishop Isong, who is the Zonal Patron of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), South South geo-political zone, explained that as laudable as the Supreme Court’s ruling may sound, the Federal Government still needs to take proactive steps towards ensuring such an important judicial pronouncement is not in vain and that Nigerians really feel the impact at the grassroot level
He further said with the local councils being closest to the people, the federal government should consider the apex Court statement as the antidote to achieve the needed turn around in terms of socio-economic growth and development at the grassroot level.
The respected Clergy, lined up for elevation and ordination as the Archbishop of the Faith Mansion World Centre of the Christian Central Chapel, as part of activities marking the weeklong event, expressed delight at the fact that Christians are gradually playing key roles in the nation’s political life.
He applauded developments in Akwa Ibom, Abia, Benue and Cross River States where their Chief Executives are demonstrating impeccable Christian virtues in handling the affairs of State
While unveiling his autobiography, entitled; “EMMAH ISONG – Diamond From The Rough”, Bishop Isong also charged journalists not to relent on their societal watchdog role as our democracy can only develop with the critical role of the media
