Boko Haram Attacks Yobe Community, Displaces 2,390 Persons
The Yobe State Emergency Management Agency (YOSEMA) says shelter has been provided in its emergency response to persons recently displaced in Mafa community of Tarmuwa Local Government Area.
The affected persons suffered displacement following a recent attack on their communities by suspected Boko Haram members.
According to the Executive Secretary of YOSEMA, Dr Mohammed Goje, the Agency’s team had to visit the temporary site where displaced persons are currently sheltered to provide them with succour.
He said following the unfortunate attack in Mafa town, two lives were lost and 475 households displaced while a total of 2,390 people from four different communities within Mafa Ward have been affected.
Goje, who listed the affected communities as Mafa, Bangaro, Ngoyo, and Billiri communities in Tarmuwa Local Government Area, said the displaced families are currently accommodated in various locations within Babban Gida town, which is the headquarters of Tarmuwa LGA.
He further said that; “The Yobe SEMA team, in collaboration with several partners, is conducting a rapid assessment to address the immediate needs of the displaced persons.
“The initial focus will be on providing essential food items, non-food items (such as mattresses, blankets, mosquito nets, mats, buckets, and dignity kits), and ensuring the safety and dignity of those affected.”
While extending sympathies to the people of Mafa, the YOSEMA Chief Executive said the Yobe State Government will provide swift and comprehensive response to their needs during this challenging time.
Also, confirming the unfortunate incident to reporters, Chairman of Tarmuwa Local Government Council, Hon Muhammad Lamido Musa commended the State government that has through YOSEMA, responded timely to the plight of the displaced persons.
