Buhari Appoints Oluwatoyin Madein As Nigeria’s First Female AGF
Makes history 63 years after independence
BY EDMOND ODOK – President Muhammadu Buhari has approved the appointment of Dr. Mrs. Oluwatoyin Sakirat Madein as Nigeria’s first female Accountant General of the Federation (AGF).
Coming 63 years after the country’s independence, her appointment followed the successful completion of the selection process meant to fill the vacancy that had existed in the Office.
The confirmation came through a circular dated Friday, May 19, 2023, with reference number OHCSF/COMMS/PR/2023/24 and signed by Mohammed Abdullahi Ahmed, Director of Communications, Office of the Head of Civil Service of the Federation (OHCSF).
Signed on behalf of the Head of Civil Service of the Federation (HCSF), Dr. Folasade Yemi Esan (CFR), the circular stated that Madein’s appointment is with effect from Thursday, 18th May 2023.
With this development, Dr Madein takes over from Mr Sylva Okolieboh, who occupied the AGF’s office in an acting capacity following the suspension of Idris Ahmed over allegations of corruption and embezzlement of public funds.
The embattled Ahmed is currently facing prosecution by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on various corruption charges.
The new appointee, who has been directed to resume duty immediately, was born on the 7th of March 1965 in Iperu Remo Ikenne Local Government Area (LGA) of Ogun State.
Until her new appointment, Madein was the Director of Finance and Accounts, Office of the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation (OHCSF).
She holds a Ph.D. in Management Finance from Walden University, Minnesota, USA.
Madein was among the 20 candidates shortlisted for the position of the AGF back in January this year.
