- Insist on power rotation for fairness, equity, good neighbourliness
BY UBON EKANEM, CALABAR – A Coalition of students, under the ages of Cross River Students’ Forum (CRSF) has thrown its weight behind the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate, Prince Bassey Edet Otu for the March 11 election in the State, citing equity and fairness for the decision.
The Forum draws it membership from the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), National Association of Cross River State Students’ World Wide (NACRISS WW), and the respective Students’ Union Governments in all the tertiary institutions in the state.
Addressing a press conference in Calabar, the state capital ahead of Saturday’s polls, the Forum stated that after a careful review of the economic blueprints unveiled by governorship candidates of the various political parties, they were satisfied that the APC flag bearer, Prince Bassey Otu has the most attractive development programmes that would cater for the people’s overall wellbeing.
The Forum also pointed out that the APC candidate’s aspiration is in line with the existing power rotation structure which promotes fairness, equity, and good political neighbourliness across the State.
NACRISS WW President, Comrade Peter Akpake, who spoke for the Forum, said in their estimation, the power rotation policy is a sensitive issue that should not be toyed with because of the personal ambition of anyone, cautioning that any attempt to truncate the arrangement may not augur well for the political future of the unborn Cross Riverians.
He also argued that with all the three senatorial districts having tasted political power from the rotation policy, the only logical thing to do is building on the gains of such laudable arrangement, instead of setting out to destroy it for selfish political ambition of certain power hungry individuals.
The Forum vowed to mobilize every student in the state to support the clarion call for a united political pursuit of a candidate whose ambition falls in line with what they believe would promote an egalitarian society where love and peace would hold sway.
