Nigeria’s woes in this year’s continental football clubs’ competition continued on Sunday as Enyimba International Football Club of Aba lost 0-2 to Williamsville Athletic Club (WAC) of Cote d’ Ivoire in the CAF Confederation Cup Group C encounter.
Looking match-rusty, the People’s Elephants, who are the only Nigerian club left in all CAF Clubs’ competitions this year, were out-played by their more adventurous Ivorian opponents
In the played at the Robert Champroux Stadium in Abidjan, the Ivorians scored in each half of the game to inflict the second defeat on the match-rusty Aba-based club in the group.
With the goals coming from N’da Jean-Willy and Guy Serge Cdric Yameogo, the People’s Elephants were a shadow of themselves recording a miserable one shot on target throughout the first 45 minutes of the match.
As the hosts dominated the encounter, they were clear on goal about several times before Willy calmly slotted in the lead on the 31st minute of play.
The match was 77 minutes old when Yameogo doubled Williamsville’s lead to complete the Nigerian representatives’ misery on the day as they slumped to the third spot in the group with six points from four games.
The victory saw Williamsville Athletic Club claiming the top position with seven points from the same number of matches while Congo Brazzaville’s side, CARRA pipped Djoliba of Mali 1-0 to move into second spot with a superior goals difference over Enyimba,
The Malians are currently condemned to the bottom of the group’s standings with four points from four outings.
Enyimba’s next encounter will be an away confrontation against Djiloba of Mali on match day five on August 19, 2018 in Bamako.
