BY COBHAM NSA, ABUJA – Contrary to social media reports of its personnel testing positive to coronavirus, the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS) says a member of staff and his wife are only in self-isolation after they came back from a foreign trip.

Debunking claims of positive test by an unidentified staff, Director, Communications and Liaison Department, FIRS, Abdullahi Ismaila Ahmad said; “No member of staff at the FIRS has tested positive to COVID-19 as being peddled on Social Media.”

In a statement issued in Abuja on Saturday, Ahmad, said the staff, who went to pick his wife from the airport “is currently and voluntarily observing the Federal Government advisory of self-isolation alongside his spouse at the couple’s home since Monday.”

He said both husband and wife “have not visited any FIRS offices or events since the wife retuned to Nigeria last Sunday.”

The Service spokesperson further said; “More importantly, both husband and wife have only been in self-isolation for five days and have NOT tested positive to Covid-19.”

Ahmad assured that all FIRS offices have already taken necessary precautions to protect both staff and their esteemed taxpayers from the Covid-19 outbreak.

He said some of the precautionary measures include; “social distancing, temperature testing, disabling of the biometric sign in, and provision of hand sanitizers for staff and visitors to our offices nationwide as advised by the Federal Ministry of Health.”
