BY AHMED TUKUR, LAFIA – As part of streamlining cost of governance, Governor Abdullah Sule of Nasarawa state has reduced the number and structure of Government Ministries from 18 to 13.
Governor Sule, who announced this at a Stakeholders meeting at Government House Lafia, explained that the downsizing is the outcome of a seven-man committee made up of retired Permanent Secretaries that studied the report of the Civil Service Reform Committee headed by Silas Dacho a retired Permanent Secretary in the state civil service.
The Five affected Ministries scrapped are those of Special Education, Science and Technology, Higher Education, Housing and Urban Development, Community Development and Water Resources.
The approved 13 Ministries are Education, Health, Land and Urban Development, Environment and Natural Resources, Youths and Sports Development, Justice, Finance and Economic Planning.
Others include Local Government, Community and Chieftaincy Affairs, Women and Social Development, Works, Housing and Transport, Agriculture and Water Resources and Trade Industries and Investment and information culture and Tourism
