Court Remands IPOB leader, Nnamdi Kanu In DSS Custody
- Case for accelerated hearing July 26 and 27
BY VICTOR BUORO – Basking in the euphoria of his arrest, the Federal Government on Tuesday brought Nnamdi Kanu, fugitive leader of the banned Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), before Federal High Court in Abuja for continuation of his trial.

Following an ex-parte application by counsel to the Federal Government, S. M. Labaran, the Court, presided over by Justice Binta Nyako, ordered that Kanu be remanded in the custody of Department of State Services (DSS).
Justice Nyako also granted an accelerated hearing of the case by bringing the charge pending against him from the earlier adjourned date of October 20 back to July 26 and 27, 2021.
At the conclusion of proceedings, the DSS operatives who brought the IPOB Leader to court in handcuffs and hooded before the court’s sitting, smuggled him out of the premises from the judge’s access staircase.
Before the Court’s ruling on his application the Federal Government’s counsel,Labaran has explained that the runaway IPOB boss was nabbed through intelligence and collaborative efforts of security agencies and Interpol.
However, he refused to speak on how and where Kanu before being brought back to Nigeria.
The Attorney General of the Federation (AGF) and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami, had informed journalists earlier that Nnamdi Kanu was arrested and brought back to the country on Sunday June 27, 2021.
Also, Malami had, in the joint briefing attended by heads of Nigeria Police and DSS, hinted that Kanu would immediately be re-arraigned in court to continue with his delayed trial after he jumped bail.
