Nigeria’s tally now 46,140 cases

BY VICTOR OSOWOCHI, ABUJA – On a day that the deadly Coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic claimed the life of another prominent personality, Senator Buruji Kashamu, the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) confirmed 453 new cases in the country, taking the total figure now to 46,140 cases.
Age 62, Senator Kashamu died at First Cardiologist Consultants in Lagos of complications from COVID-19.
The news of his death was broken by his close family friend and associate, Senator Ben Murray-Bruce.
Murray-Bruce, writing on Twitter said: “I have just lost my good friend of forever to #COVID19. Until his death, Sen. Buruji Kashamu and I were inseparable.
“He died today at First Cardiology Consultants, in Lagos; May his gentle soul rest in peace. I pray his family and loved ones the fortitude to bear this heavy loss.”
He represented Ogun East in the 8th Senate and was the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship candidate in the 2019 general election.
Meanwhile, the NCDC’s highlights late on Saturday via its verified Twitter handle indicated that; “On the 8th of August 2020, 453 new confirmed cases and 6 deaths were recorded in Nigeria
“Till date, 46140 cases have been confirmed, 33044 cases have been discharged and 942 deaths have been recorded in 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory
“The 453 new cases are reported from 20 states – FCT (75), Lagos (71), Benue (53), Delta (39), Borno (30), Enugu (25), Plateau (24), Osun (20), Abia (19), and Oyo (17)”
Others are: “Kaduna (16), Kano (13), Ebonyi (13), Ogun (9), Kwara (7), Ondo (6), Gombe (3), Ekiti (2), Akwa Ibom (1) and Rivers (1)”
