COVID-19 Latest: NCDC Reports 457 New Cases, Tally Hits 44,890

BY VICTOR OSOWOCHI, ABUJA – The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) late Wednesday night reported 457 new infections of coronavirus (COVID-19) to take the countrywide tally to 44,890 cases so far.

Confirming the figures via its official Twitter handle, the NCDC said the last 24 hours also witnessed 17 deaths, bringing the total fatality numbers to 927 deaths across the 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

However, cheering news also came from the rising numbers of successfully treated and discharged cases from the various isolation centres and hospitals across the country.

The NCDC reported on its website thus: “On the 5th of August 2020, 457 new confirmed cases and 17 deaths were recorded in Nigeria.

“Till date, 44,890 cases have been confirmed, 32,165 cases have been discharged and 927 deaths have been recorded in 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory.”

According to its statistics, of the 457 new cases reported from 21 states of the federation, Lagos returned to lead the daily chart with 137 cases followed by FCT -(76), Plateau – (40), Rivers – (35), Enugu – (34), Oyo – (25) and Abia – (23).

Others captured on the chart are: Delta – (12), Ebonyi – (11), Edo – (11), Cross River – (10), Kwara – (10), Kaduna – (9), Anambra – (7), Ogun – (5), Bauchi – (3), Imo – (3), Nasarawa – (2), Osun – (2), Ekiti – (1) and Kano – (1)
