BY AHMED TUKUR, LAFIA – Following the death of one of their colleagues, whose result for COVID-19 test turned out positive two days after his death, members of the Nasarawa State House of Assembly led by the Speaker, Hon. Ibrahim Balarabe have all gone on isolation.

This is just as palpable fear and tension have gripped Lafia, the Nasarawa state capital and its environs following the positive result of a deceased Nasarawa State House of Assembly lawmaker, representing Nasarawa central, Late Hon. Suleiman Ibrahim, who died at the Federal Medical Centre (FMC), Keffi.

Governor Abdullahi Sule, who confirmed the positive result at a press briefing in Lafia, the state capital, advised those who came in contact with the Late Hon Suleiman Ibrahim to go on self-isolation immediately.

Governor Sule said; “The House of Assembly will be locked down while all those who came in contact with the deceased are advised to go on isolation”.

The Governor disclosed that already, Speaker of the House, Hon. Ibrahim Balarabe has agreed to go on isolation with his members and their families.

The result of the test carried out on Late Ibrahim, who died on Thursday was confirmed to be positive for COVID-19 disease on Sunday, two day after he was buried.

Checks by Forefront News indicated that late Ibrahim was rushed to the Federal Medical Centre (FMC) Keffi when he developed symptoms and after treating malaria in three different facilities in Nasarawa Local Government Area his home town.

The deceased lawmaker later died last Thursday night and was buried on Friday with most members of the State Assembly in attendance with families and friends.

It was also gathered that most heath workers in the three facilities where he was treated for malaria and the FMC Keffi staff attended to the late lawmaker without using Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).

They are indications that the State government may be left with no alternative than to quarantine all workers of the FMC and the other three facilities.
