COVID-19: NCDC Reports 1,483 New Infections
Nigeria’s tally now 118,138 cases
BY VICTOR OSOWOCHI, ABUJA – The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) has confirmed 1,964 new infections of COVID-19 with the country’s tally now shooting up to 118,138 cases.
According to the NCDC’s statistics captured on its official Twitter handle on Friday, January 22, 2021, five deaths were also recorded on the day.
The disease outfit said; “On the 22nd of January 2021, 1483 new confirmed cases and 5 deaths were recorded in Nigeria.
“Till date, 118,138 cases have been confirmed, 94,150 cases have been discharged and 1,490 deaths have been recorded in 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory.”
Quite interesting on the day is that Lagos State hitherto the epicentre of COVID-19 in Nigeria recorded no case by NCDC’s report sheet.
However, of the 1,483 new cases reported from 23 states of the federation, Kaduna came out tops with 545 cases, followed by FCT – (235); Plateau – (127); Nasarawa – (80); Oyo – (72); Delta – (65); Rivers – (64); Kano – (46); and Ogun – (46).
Other states on the list are: Bayelsa – (30); Gombe – (30); Abia – (28); Osun – (27); Edo – (25); Ondo – (14); Sokoto – (12); Zamfara – (10); Bauchi – (8); Imo – (5); Jigawa – (4); Ekiti – (4); Borno – (4); and Niger – (2).
