COVID-19: Novak Djokovic Apologises, ‘We Were Wrong’

World Number one men’s tennis player, Novak Djokovic has admitted that he was “wrong” to organise a tennis exhibition series in Serbia and Croatia after testing positive for COVID-19.
The beleaguered Serbian superstar tested positive, along with his wife, Jelena, throwing tennis into turmoil as the sport’s official tour prepares to resume.
However, reports said that their children tested negative to the virus.
The husband and wife join three other leading players and two trainers infected by the virus towards the end of the Serb’s unsanctioned Adria Tour. The Adria Tour, a charity tournament that started in Croatia at the weekend.
The tournament was launched in Belgrade then moved to Zadar, Croatia on the weekend.
The 17-time grand slam champion released a statement confirming he had contracted COVID-19 before admitting on Instagram it was a mistake to go ahead with his tournament.
“I am so deeply sorry our tournament has caused harm,” he wrote, adding: “Everything the organisers and I did the past month, we did with a pure heart and sincere intentions.
“We believed the tournament met all health protocols and the health of our region seemed in good condition to finally unite people for philanthropic reasons.
“We were wrong and it was too soon. IÂ can’t express how sorry I am for this and every case of infection.”
Djokovic urged anyone that attended the Adria Tour, or came into contact with people who were there, “to get tested and practise social distancing”.
He also added: “We will be sharing health resources in the immediate future.”
According to a statement from his spokesperson, “Djokovic is “not showing any symptoms” – Agency reports
