- Reports 452 new cases
BY VICTOR OSOWOCHI, ABUJA – With its confirmation of 452 new coronavirus (COVID-19) cases late on Tuesday night, the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) reports that the total number of persons infected by the virus in Nigeria has now moved to 21,371.
The NCDC also said that having treated and discharged 229 patients from different isolation centres across the country in the last 24 hours, the figure of recoveries has risen to 7,338 cases.
Also captured by the Centre on its website is that eight (8) new deaths were recorded on Tuesday, which took the fatality figure from the virus infection to 533 cases nationwide.
On the day that a total of 1,809 samples were tested across the country, the NCDC said of the 452 new cases reported from 14 states, Lagos, the epicentre of the virus in Nigeria, again led the pack with 209 new cases taking its tally to 9073 confirmed cases .
Others are: Oyo – (67), Delta – (37), Ogun – (36), FCT – (22), Abia – (20), Enugu – (16), Bauchi -(15), Kaduna and Ondo – Eight (8), Osun – Seven (7), Imo and Benue – Three (3), while Borno had just One (1) case.
Globally, latest figures published by Johns Hopkins University indicate 9,184,976 cases have been detected, with 474,609 deaths and 4,604,130 people reported to have recovered from the deadly virus infection.
According to the university’s statistics, in the African continent,
South Africa has so far recorded 106,108 cases with 2,102 deaths while Nigeria’s West African neighbours, Ghana has 14,568 confirmed cases with 95 deaths.
