COVID-19: Senate President Floods Yobe North With Palliatives For Thousands
BY AMOS DUNIA, ABUJA – President of the Senate, Ahmad Lawan, has flooded his home State with assorted food items as palliatives to thousands of residents in the six Local Government Areas that make up Yobe North Senatorial District.
The beneficiary Local Government Areas are Bade, Nguru, Jakusko, Yusufari, Karasuwa, and Machina.
The gesture by Senator Lawan aims at providing relief to residents and members of his Yobe North senatorial district that are affected by the lockdown due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
It was not just distribution of the palliatives alone as the Senate President’s delivery of the food items to his constituents came with the provision of infrared thermometers, chemicals for disinfection, spraying machines, hand sanitizers, face masks, hand gloves and boots.
Also included in the palliatives provided are Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) to some hospitals across the various Local Governments in Yobe North Senatorial District.
The distribution of the palliatives, which commenced with a first phase on April 28, 2020, entered its second phase on May 9, 2020; and is expected to be concluded with a third phase slated for Thursday, May 21, 2020 to compliment the end of Ramadan and Eid Fitir celebrations.
Materials distributed in the two phases, include seven trailer loads of rice, ten trailer loads of sugar, four trailer loads of millet, and three thousand (3000) cartons of Turkey oil among other consumables and food items.
