- Reports 87 new cases
- Imo state joins roll call
BY VICTOR OSOWOCHI, ABUJA – The numbers are still rising with the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) reporting 87 new confirmed cases of coronavirus (COVID-19) and one new death in the country late Saturday night.
According to NCDC, Imo now joins the list as the latest State that has reported confirmed cases in the last 24 hours.
Giving its usual update on the country’s situation as at 11:55pm on Saturday, April 25, 2020, the Centre, on its official website, reported that 1182 cases have been confirmed, even as 222 cases have been successfully treated and discharged.
Reeling out more figures, NCDC said the 87 new cases came in from nine (9) states. The breakdown indicated that Lagos has thirty-three (33); Borno – Eighteen (18); and Osun – Twelve (12).
Others featuring on the list are: Katsina – Nine (9); Kano and Ekiti – Four (4) each; Edo and Bauchi -Three (3) each with Imo bringing up the rear with one (1) case.
The NCDC however said that sadly, available information from 28 states and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) confirms that thirty five (35) deaths have been recorded since the first index case was reported in Nigeria.
Meanwhile, the Centre has explained that one case initially confirmed in Lagos State, has traveled to Ondo State for treatment.
With this development therefore, the number of cases in Lagos is 689 and the number of cases in Ondo now moves to four (4) cases.
Also, in a message tagged “Ramadan Kareem to our Muslim brothers and sisters”, the NCDC said; “As we commemorate the Holy Month, we urge you to adhere to guidance from health authorities.”
