COVID-19 Update: NCDC Reports 325 New Cases, Nigeria’s Tally Now 48,770
BY VICTOR OSOWOCHI, ABUJA – The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) on Saturday night reported 325 new infections of coronavirus (COVID-19), bringing the tally to 48,770 confirmed cases in the country.
The NCDC also disclosed that ongoing efforts at managing patients are yielding huge results in terms of recoveries and discharges with one fatality case officially recorded countrywide on Saturday.
This is as the centre also assured that it would continue to prioritise trainings across states for current response activities and strengthen our health security for future disease outbreaks.
According to highlights posted on its official website, the NCDC said; “On the 15th of August 2020, 325 new confirmed cases and 1 death were recorded in Nigeria
“Till date, 48770 cases have been confirmed, 36290 cases have been discharged and 974 deaths have been recorded in 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory.”
Breakdown of the 325 new cases reported from 20 states of the Federation indicated thus: Lagos – (87), FCT – (49), Gombe – (28), Ebonyi – (20), Plateau – (19), Kwara – (18), Enugu – (17), Imo – (12) and Rivers – (12)
Also on the list of daily infections in the last 24 hours are: Kaduna – (11), Ogun – (10), Edo – (9), Oyo – (9), Ondo – (8), Osun – (8), Ekiti – (4), Borno – (1), Kano – (1), Bauchi – (1) and Nasarawa – (1)
Meanwhile, offering insights on its nationwide partnership with State governments and other relevant stakeholders, the Centre said in one of its tweets that; “Our focus is strengthening existing skills in disease surveillance, case management, risk communication, sample collection and others.”
Offering further explanations on such collaborative efforts at combating the COVID-19 health menace, the Centre said; “in Kano, our Rapid Response Team #NCDCRRT continues to support @KNSMOH in strengthening #COVID19 response activities in the state.
“This week, the team supported the training of community health workers to strengthen #COVID19 community based surveillance.”
