COVID-19 Update: NCDC Reports 387 New Cases, Tally Now 9,302
- Lagos records 254 new cases
BY VICTOR OSOWOCHI, ABUJA – The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) on Friday night reported 387 new cases of the Coronavirus (COVID-19) with the total infections nationwide now at 9,302 cases
Though no new state reported a case in the last 24 hours, the NCDC said two (2) deaths were also recorded on May 29, 2020.
Reports on the NCDC official website indicated that of the 9,302 confirmed cases, 2697 patients have been treated and discharged from various isolation centres in the country.
It also stated that the number of fatalities have risen to 261 deaths in 35 states and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
NCDC gave the breakdown of the 387 new cases reported from 14 states as: Lagos – (254); FCT – (29); Jigawa – (24); Edo – (22); Oyo – (15); Rivers – (14); and Kaduna – (11).
Others are: Borno – Six (6); Kano – Three (3); Plateau, Yobe, Gombe and Bauchi – Two (2) cases each while Ondo has one (1) case.
According to NCDC, efforts at increasing COVID-19 testing capacity in the country have seen many States, including Kano, setting up mobile testing sites in some communities.
One of the tweets indicated that the NCDC team is working to address skepticism and stigma around COVID-19 in most of these areas to encourage compliance to testing.
Similarly, the Centre noted that majority of COVID-19 patients only show mild symptoms and recover thereafter, adding that the current national case management protocol is for all cases to be managed by a team of clinicians in an isolation centre.
The arrangement is meant to ensure optimal care; contain; and prevent further spread of the virus in the country.
