COVID-19 Update: NCDC Reports 91 New Cases, Confirms Tally @873

BY VICTOR OSOWOCHI, ABUJA –The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) said as at 11:25 pm on Wednesday, April 22, 2020, the official figure has risen to 873 confirmed cases of coronavirus (COVID-19) in the country.

Also posted on the NCDC’s website are reports of 91 newly confirmed cases of COVID-19 while 197 cases have been successfully treated and discharged since the first index case was reported in Nigeria early March 2020.

A breakdown of the 91 fresh cases indicated that nine (9) States accounted for the total number with Lagos taking the lead as usual reporting Seventy-four (74) cases.

Other States on the list of freshly reported cases are: Katsina – Five (5); Ogun – Four (4); Edo and Delta – Two (2) each; while FCT, Adamawa, Kwara and Oyo have one (1) case each.

However, NCDC reports that the official number of deaths from COVID-19 has gradually risen to twenty eight (28) cases across the country. 

Meanwhile, the NCDC explained that investigations are currently on-going to determine the cause of reported deaths in Kano State.

This is as the Centre disclosed that rapid response teams have been deployed and are already working in 27 states to support response efforts at fighting #COVID19 in Nigeria with recent being Abia, Gombe and Sokoto states.
