COVID-19 Update: Nigeria Reports 196 New Cases, Total Now 1728
BY VICTOR OSOWOCHI, ABUJA – The worrying signs are not easing off as Nigeria on Wednesday recorded its highest ever Coronavirus (COVID-19) cases in a single day with the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) confirming 196 new cases as at 11.55pm local time.
By this number, the country’s new tally now becomes 1728 confirmed cases with five deaths also recorded on the day, April 29, 2020.
According to the figure, which was one more than Tuesday’s reported 195, the cases were recorded in twelve (12) states with one new state, Yobe, joining the list in the last 24 hours.
The breakdown indicated that Lagos, as the epicentre, led the way with Eighty-seven (87); Kano – Twenty-four (24); Gombe -Eighteen (18); and Kaduna – Seventeen (17).
Others are Federal Capital Territory – Sixteen (16); Katsina – Ten (10); Sokoto – Eight (8); Edo – Seven (7) and Borno – Six (6) while Yobe, Ebonyi and Adamawa states have one (1) case each.
NCDC also confirmed that the number of patients treated and discharged rose from 225 to 307 cases while in all, 51 deaths have now been recorded in 34 states and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
Fifty-five (55) patients were discharged from isolation centres in Lagos and Katsina states.
Lagos alone treated and discharged forty-nine (49) patients from its Infectious Disease Hospital (IDH) and another isolation centre, according to Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu.
