BY EDMOND ODOK, ABUJA – A Businesswoman and mother of four, Mrs Onyinye Obi Vivian, has petitioned the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Mohammed Adamu over threat to her life and the children in her 16-year-old marriage to an Enugu-based ijournalist, Mr Somtochukwu Petrus Obi
Obi Vivian, who resides at Onugu Ibagwa, Abakpa Nike area of Enugu State, informed the IGP that she can no longer bear the life-threatening harassment, intimidation and physical abuse by her estranged husband, Petrus Obi and his suspected mistress, one Mrs Chibota Adam Edozie, who works with National Light Newspapers in Enugu
In a two-page petition dated Wednesday, December 16, 2020 and received on Thursday, December 17, 2020 at the IGP office, Force Headquarters, Louis Edet House, Abuja, Mrs Obi Vivian said; “I desire your urgent intervention to save me from my husband and his mistress. For clarity purposes, my husband is Mr Petrus Obi, a journalist with an Online platform and we both have four children, while his mistress is also a journalist, a married woman with four children, Mrs Chibota Adam Edozie. She works with National Light Newspapers, published by the Anambra State Newspaper Publishing Company in Akwa.”
In the petition titled: “Threat to Life/SOS”, Mrs Obi Vivian further alleged; “For the past six years, Chibota Edozie has made my house a living hell for me and my children. Not only has she effectively taken my husband away from his once happy wife and children, the woman has taken her antics to another level with several direct threats to terminate my life and those of my children.”
Narrating her ordeal in the document, the embattled woman claimed that; “At several times, she (Chibota) confronted me directly that no matter what I do, nothing will separate her from my husband, Petrus. She also warned me to stay clear of her affairs with my husband or face the dire consequences which she clearly said will be my death.
“Apart from physical threat, Chibota has also adopted several diabolical ways of ensuring that I quickly breathe my last. What is my offence? I asked her to let my family be. Their affair is public knowledge in Enugu and environs.”
Also accusing the husband of adamantly denying her conjugal rites in the last couple of years due to Chibota’s intrusion in their marriage, Vivian lamented; “It has become so painful that for the past two and a half years, I’ve not had any marital bliss with my husband. (He has not had any carnal knowledge of me) to the extent that recently when I reported the matter to the Women Aid Collective (WACOL), a pro-women Civil Society Organization, based in Enugu, to my surprise, my husband asked for divorce, making it clear that himself and Chibota, another man’s wife had become inseparable.”
While maintaining that she was not against her husband’s desire for a divorce, a visibly troubled Vivian told the IGP; “I am appealing to you Sir to use your good offices to ensure my safety and the safety of my children”, adding; “We now live in fear. I am also very convinced that by the time this petition goes public, they might eventually kill or main me. Please Sir, you need to save our souls”
To strengthen and substantiate her claims, Vivian provided her husband and his suspected mistress, Chibota’s telephone numbers to the police, even as she accused the twosome of also engaging in unholy acts against innocent people for their selfish aims.
She told the Police boss in her petition thus: “It may also interest you Sir to know that the duo have equally engaged in sustained battle against other innocent people.
“I am in the know that my husband and his mistress, Chibota have engaged the services of several witch-doctors and so-called prophets to either kill one Mr Chris Isiguzo, the present National President of Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) or better still disgrace him out of office.
According to the aggrieved woman; “They have conspired to propagate several baseless allegations against him (NUJ President), including court actions and petitions before anti-graft agencies. All these have one objective, to paint him in bad light before right thinking members of society.”
Clearly hoping that the Police can stop her husband in his perceived atrocious track, Vivian said in the petition, copied to the Commissioner of Police in Enugu State; Area Commander, Enugu; and the Media, thus: “I plead with you Sir to quickly intervene and by so doing, save several innocent people from either being diabolically killed, maimed or disgraced.
“What initially started as mere politics within their union has long snowballed into bitter war that if care is not taken will degenerate to an irredeemable level.”
On her reason for the petition; Mrs Obi Vivian said; “I am constrained to officially petition your (IGP) office about a major threat to my life, the lives of my children and perhaps other innocent people.”
