Dr Kyari Of University Of Abuja Wins Research Grant On PWD

The Dean of Students’ Affairs of University of Abuja, Dr Abubakar Umar Kari, has won a research grant for a project to generate data on the state of ‘People With Disabilities (PWD)’.

Kari, an Associate Professor of Sociology, and  Professor Parvati Raghuram of the UK Open University last year (2020), won a research project on Peace Building and Education in Africa.

The project which is expected to run between June and December 2021, involves monitoring the progress on the domestication of the Disabilities Act in the 36 states of the federation and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

The project which is being handled by the Africa Polling Institute (API), with support from Ford Foundation, covers the North-Central geo-political zone that include Benue, Kogi, Kwara, Nasarawa, Niger and Plateau States and the FCT.

The letter conveying the approval of the grant to Dr. Kari, signed by Research Associate, Okonkwo Ekene of the Africa Polling Institute states; “This is to inform you that the selection committee for the sub-grant call for academics working on disability research in Nigeria at the Africa Polling Institute has met to review the credentials, background and experience of applicants.

“I am pleased to inform you that your application successfully passed the committee’s review, and you have been selected as a Scholar on the Disability Research Project.”
