BY EDMOND ODOK, ABUJA – As the battle for All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship ticket in Edo State hots up, the Governor Godwin Obaseki-led team has declared its readiness to take on all aspirants to the Government House Benin in a open debate for public scrutiny.

Obaseki is therefore challenging the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Comrade Adams Oshiomhole, and all governorship aspirants in the state to brace up and face Edo people with their political and stewardship credentials.

“If Adams Oshiomhole and members of his factional group have the moral turf of the government of the day in Edo State, let them come and tell the world in an open debate”, the governor’s camp bragged.

Upping the ante of political contestation in the South South State on behalf of Obaseki, his tough-talking deputy, Comrade Philip Shaibu, who is maintains that the governor has all it takes to successfully return for a second term.

With some political pundits now describing him as Obaseki’s attack dog in the current crisis rocking the Edo chapter of APC, Shaibu said the governor’s moral uprightness and effective service delivery are strong points for the people to re-elect him come September 2020.

In the statement made available to journalists in Abuja, Comrade Shaibu said; “I am throwing an open invitation to anyone who has the moral standing of Godwin Obaseki to come out and defend their statements in an open debate.”

The statement signed by his Special Assistant on Media, Benjamin Atu, the Deputy Governor further said; “the nature of a political system is a factor that usually conditions the expectation and behaviour of political actors’’.

According to him, the Edo APC crisis is traceable to the underhand strategies deployed by Comrade Adams Oshiomhole to direct the behaviour and actions of his political associates.

Shaibu, who accused the Party’s National Chairman of creating a “political system that has made it difficult for leaders to lead effectively and for followers to follow voluntarily”, said happily, even Governor Obaseki’s harshest critics readily acknowledge “his impeccable honesty, competence and humble life style.”

‘’We have given voice to the voiceless. The government has returned power to the masses. We run a transparent government where our records can be evaluated.

“It beats my imagination that the same man who betrayed an arrangement suddenly turned 360 degree against his words and started tormenting the government”.

Challenging the APC Nstional Chairman and all gubernatorial aspirants to publicly present their track records to Edo people for assessment, the State Deputy governor said; “This is the time for the people to know about our performance and evaluate our government based on our achievements in office.
