BY SEGUN ADEBAYO – The Inter Party Advisory Council (IPAC) has urged citizens to embrace the virtues of sacrifice, patriotism, and unity in the spirit of this year’s Eid-el-Kabir celebration.
The Council said it is important for Nigerians to emulate the teachings of Prophet Mohammed (SAW) and the example of Prophet Ibrahim, whose obedience and sacrifice are commemorated during the Eid
A press statement by IPAC’s National Chairman, Dr Yusuf Mamman Dantalle, in Abuja on Friday, said; “This is the only country we can call our own. We must join hands to build a strong, united, progressive, and inclusive democratic society where no one is left behind.”
The statement stressed the importance of prayers, peace, tolerance, and national unity amid the economic challenges due to ongoing reforms, including the removal of fuel subsidy.
Additionally, it highlighted the need for citizens to feel the real benefits of democracy as guaranteed in the Constitution, referencing Section 14(2)(b) of the 1999 Constitution (as amended), which places the security and welfare of the people as the primary responsibility of government.
While expressing deep condolences to the government and people of Niger State following the recent flooding in Mokwa LGA, which claimed over 180 lives and displaced thousands, IPAC called for proactive measures by governments at all levels to prevent such disasters.
Also urging Nigerians to support victims of the tragedy, the Council condemned recent violence in parts of the country, particularly the killings in Benue State.
Accordingly, it charged the Federal Government to take swift and decisive action to ensure security and protect lives.
Declaring that “Enough is enough”, the IPAC National Chairman said, “There cannot be sustainable democracy and development without security.”
He extended warm greetings and good wishes to all Nigerians for a peaceful and joyous Eid-el-Kabir celebration.
