The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC), on Wednesday, February 18, 2026, confirmed that former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, is in its custody.
This was contained in a statement by J. Okor Odey, Head of Media and Public Communications and Spokesperson of the Commission, stating that El-Rufai was in the custody of the ICPC as of the close of work on Wednesday in connection with ongoing investigations.
The statement explained that the former governor of Kaduna State was being held strictly for investigative purposes.
The Commission did not however, provide further details on the nature of the investigation as it merely said that additional information would be made available to the public as appropriate.
El-Rufai was invited and grilled by the EFCC on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday before he was released to enable him fulfil his pledge that he would submit himself for investigation by the anti-graft agency.
The Department of State Services (DSS), which has already filed Cybercrime charges against the former Kaduna State governor, is also believed to be waiting in the wings to arrest El-Rufai as soon as he is done with the ICPC.
