The Resource Centre for Human Rights and Civic Education (CHRICED) has demanded the immediate suspension of the Chief of Staff to the President, Hon. Femi Gbajabiamila, to give room for an independent investigation into controversies surrounding the Presidential Foreign Intervention Promotion Council (PFIPC).
CHRICED noted that the allegations against Gbajabiamila raise serious concerns about transparency, accountability and governance, stressing that such serious matters must be subjected to an independent and transparent probe.
These were contained in a statement on Sunday, July 5, 2026 by Comrade Ibrahim M. Zikirullahiu, Executive Director of CHRICED in which he described the allegations by the disclaimed PFIPC Director-General, Adeniyi Adeyemi as “grave”.
Adeyemi had reportedly alleged that Gbajabiamila facilitated his appointment “at a price.”
While linking the controversy to concerns raised in the IMF’s 2026 Article IV Consultation Report over alleged discrepancies between government expenditure and budget records, CHRICED urged the Federal Ministry of Finance and the Budget Office to provide further clarification, despite the Ministry’s denial of the claims.
CHRICED specifically decried Nigeria’s worsening insecurity, citing persistent kidnappings and banditry as factors eroding public confidence in government.
The organisation therefore demanded the constitution of an independent investigative panel comprising civil society representatives, anti-corruption experts and jurists, as well as the publication of the mandates, funding and operational structures of all government-linked councils and intervention bodies.
CHRICED also tasked the Federal Government to deepen transparency and accountability, just as it called on civil society, the media, labour unions and other stakeholders to sustain pressure for responsible governance.
It insisted that a thorough investigation into the PFIPC controversy is needed to restore public confidence, stressing that anyone found culpable should be held accountable in accordance with the law.
