Engr Chetto Dismisses Lalong’s Govt As ‘Colossal Failure’
CHAMBERLAIN ODEY, JOS – A one-time gubernatorial aspirant on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Plateau state, Engineer Jimmy Chetto, has slammed the administration of Governor Simon Lalong, dismissing it as a “colossal failure”, after more than two years in office.
Chetto, who recently completed ward registration and returned to the PDP, expressed disappointment that both in terms of projects completion and initiating new ones, the Lalong’s administration has very little or nothing to show.
Speaking in Jos over the weekend, the PDP returnee said that considering the time Governor Lalong has so far spent in office, and the little time left as the 2019 elections beckon, the current administration has failed the people of Plateau state.
Chetto, who had a fruitless hibernation in the All Progressive Congress (APC) prior to the 2015 general elections, said; “What is on ground is very little and rather disappointing. There is really very little to point at as achievement for more than two years in office. There is no change. And I think the Plateau project for which we rallied round him to ensure he won the last election has suffered a severe setback under Lalong’s government. Nothing meaningful has happened to give greater hope to the average Plateau man and our collective aspirations as a people.”
He further said that “the Mararaba Jammah/Secretariat Junction road project is one of the main failures of the administration. In more than two years, the government has not been able to take the project to any reasonable length. The road is almost where Lalong met it. Yet, they are already indulged in variation of the initial contract terms. It is really unfortunate.”
“Again, look at the Jos Main Market. As far as I am concerned, there is no Jos Main Market again. The structure that used to be the Main Market has collapsed. Structurally, there no market there anymore. I think what the government should have done is to consider the potential of a modern mall in that place, and then provide satellite markets in different locations to meet the people’s norms and value for an open market as is the popular cultural practice in Africa”, Chetto said.
