The new Assistant Inspector-General of Police (AIG) in charge of Zone 9, Ene Okon, has vowed to end the killings of policemen and burning of police stations by gunmen in the South East geo-political zone of the country.
AIG Okon said the Police Force is on top of the situation with strategic plans to contain insecurity in the zone comprising Abia, Ebonyi and Imo State Police commands.
He told reporters that being conversant with the zone, all necessary measures would be put in place to address the growing security challenges, stressing that; “Abia, Imo and Ebonyi states are not new to me. It is not going to be strange for me to work here.”
Hear him; “Destruction of property is anti-societal development. This is why we must protect the lives and properties of government and that of the general public.
“I can assure you that despite coming to the zone at a very challenging time, I will make sure that I do my job to the best of my abilities.
“I have been the Commissioner of Police in this state and the records are there. I will make sure that I replicate the feat I achieved here as a CP now that I am the AIG.”
According to him; “What I ask from Abians and the citizens of the entire zone is for them to cooperate with me by providing credible information because we need to operate in a peaceful environment.
“My utmost desire is to make Zone 9 a haven for human habitation, infrastructural development and a place that is safe for economic development.”
Speaking on the low morale of police officers and personnel in the zone, the AIG assured of engaging with all concerned as part of confidence-building and morale boasting measures in line with the mandate of Inspector-General of Police Usman Baba.
