The man appointed by President Muhammadu Buhari as the acting Inspector-General of Police, Usman Alkali is from Geidam Local Government Area of Yobe State, North-East Nigeria

He takes over from immediate past IGP Mohammed Abubakar Adamu who hails from Nasarawa state.

Born on March 1, 1963, the new Police helmsman, aside holding a Teachers’ Grade II Certificate from Teachers College, Potiskum, is an alumnus of Bayero University, Kano (BUK) – 1985, and the University of Maiduguri (UNIMAID) – 1997

Married with children, Usman Alkali joined the Nigerian Police Force (NPF) in March 15, 1988 and rose through the ranks from ASP to the peak with his new appointment as the acting IGP.

With BA (ED) in Political Science and Masters in Public Administration (MPA), he is a fellow of the National Defence College (NDC) and a member of the International Association of Chiefs of Police.

Before his elevation to the IGP position, Usman Alkali was the Deputy Inspector General (DIG), Force Criminal Investigation Department, Force Headquarters.

Among the top management positions that Alkali has held within the force include; Assistant Inspector-General (AIG) of Police in charge of Zone – 5 Benin; Zone – 4 Makurdi; Zone – 7 Abuja; as well as Commissioner of Police FCT and Delta state Commands.

In his career progression, Alkali served as Divisional Police Officer (DPO) in Yola, Gombe, Kaduna and Jos; Area Commander in Ilorin, Kwara State; Second-in-Command in Ebonyi State and Assistant Commissioner, CID in Kaduna.

Also, he was in Kaduna as the Deputy Commissioner in charge of administration; Deputy Commissioner of Police (Investigation) in the FCT; and a Directing Staff in the Police Staff College.
