Establish Police Outpost For Us, Chafuyi Community Cries Out To IGP

BY EMMANUEL EKO, ABUJA – Chafuyi community in Apo, Abuja, has appealed to the Inspector General of Police, Ibrahim Kpotun Idris, to come to its aid by establishing a police outpost for the community.
The residents have been facing diverse challenges, including insecurity due to attacks by armed robbers who take the advantage of the absence of security operatives to carry out their nefarious activities despite the presence of a vigilante group.
A resident, who spoke in tears, said he would never forget a recent attack by the robbers who invaded the village and shot sporadically in the air. A victim of the attack, a shop owner popularly known as Nwa Aba, said the robbers met him in his shop between the hours of 9-10pm.
“They ordered my customers who came to buy items to lie down, including myself. I was beaten and injured with machete cuts, while the operation lasted. My money and my customers’ phones were collected. Residents who heard the gunshots ran out of the village for safety,” Nwa Aba recalled.
Another resident of Chafuyi, Mr. Waziri Yakubu, said he ran into the bush with his family members, adding: “I left all I have to run with my family members to the bush for safety when I heard the sporadic gunshots.”
A community leader, Mr Isah Dangiwa, said the establishment of a police outpost, if approved, would assist tackle the increasing rate of crime in the community, as the residents have are being attacked by hoodlums and armed robbers on a regular basis.
Dangiwa, who said there was a recent attack on the community, noted that the establishment of a police outpost in the community would drastically reduce to the barest minimum the level of crime. Dangiwa said he was already in touch with the Apo Division of the Nigerian Police on the need for a police outpost.
