BY WILLIAM ATTAH, GOMBE – Determined to address the dearth of health workers in the State, the Gombe Government is basking in the excitement of recruiting about 22 fresh indigenous Medical Doctors into its employ from the State University.
The State Commissioner of Health, Dr. Habu Dahiru, who disclosed the cheery news, said the 22 fresh graduates of Medicine and other related courses from Gombe State University were given immediate employment to bridge the gap existing in the State health sector.
He said more doctors are also being expected from the Ahmadu Bello University (ABU) Zaria, University of Jos (UNIJOS), University of Maiduguri (UNIMAID), and some other universities across the country.
Dr Dahiru, who presented the employment letters as well as keys to 22 furnished apartments allocated to the doctors within the State Specialist Hospital premises, said it is the first time Gombe has witnessed such development, noting that it is a great feat by the Governor Muhammad Inuwa Yahaya-led administration.
He said the State Government is pleased to have invested in training the medical personnel with Governor Yahaya promising his administration support and cooperation to all the interns to effectively carry out their duties.
Introducing the interns to the Health Commissioner, Director of Hospital Services in the State Ministry of Health, Dr. James Mahdi, said they were all sworn-in on Thursday, July 1, 2021 and have already resumed duty as House Officers in Gombe State Specialist Hospital, Gombe.
According to him, the newly engaged doctors would be useful to the facility and add value to its service delivery as they will be in the Hospital 24/7 on shift duties at different sections or departments of the Hospital. Gynaecology, GOPD and other areas where their services are required.
Speaking for the new doctors, Dr Umar Adamu Billiri appreciated the State Government for the opportunity to practice what they have studied for years.
He specifically thanked the Government for sponsoring their studies, assuring that they would work collaboratively with their leaders and all health workers in the facility to make the government and the people of Gombe State proud.
