Explosion Rocks Trans-Niger Pipeline In Rivers State
An explosion has rocked the Trans-Niger Pipeline at Bodo, Gokana Local Government Area of Rivers State causing heavy fire in the after section.
Information at the disposal of Forefront News indicated that the explosion reportedly happened on Monday night, March 17, 2025 along the critical export pipeline that transports crude to the Bonny Terminal.
However, the exact cause of the explosion is not known as at the time of this report just as it was gathered that the affected section of the major pipeline is currently on fire.
While the explosion rages, authorities have yet to determine whether the incident resulted from human interference, especially against the backdrop of recent threats by militant groups that vowed to attack oil installations in response to the Federal Government’s withholding of Rivers State’s allocation as a result of the ongoing political crisis in the State.
The Niger Delta Youth Council (NDYC), had issued a seven-day ultimatum to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, demanding the restoration of the Rivers State’s revenue allocations, and cessation of impeachment plans against Governor Siminalayi Fubara.
The NDYC also demanded a public retraction and apology over unpalatable remarks against the Ijaw people allegedly by Mr Nyesom Wike, minister of the Federal Capital Territory.
It warned that failure to meet the demands would lead to the shutdown of oil production in the region which would significantly affect the economy of the nation.
Similarly, another militant group, the Niger Delta Development Force (NDDF), also threatened to target oil installations if the federal government continues its interference in the administration of Rivers State.
