Former Chairman of the Nigeria Governors’ Forum (NGF), and immediate past Governor of Ekiti State, Dr. Kaode Fayemi has dismissed as false a report claiming that he held a closed-door meeting with the former Kano State Governor, Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, at his Abuja residence.

The claim was circulated on X (formerly Twitter) by a number of social media handles such as “June 12 Movement” and “ADC Vanguard” alongside a resurrected old video clip showing Fayemi greeting Senator Kwankwaso at his residence.

A statement by the Fayemi Media Office on Wednesday, signed by Mallam Ahmad Sajoh, quoted Dr Fayemi as having described the report as a blatant lie that must have surprised Senator Kwankwanso equally.

Fayemi therefore urged the public to disregard the report in its entirety, stressing that at no time did he held or is holding, any closed-door political meeting with Senator Kwankwaso as suggested by the post.

The statement further stated; “Dr Fayemi has only met Senator Kwankwaso once in the last one year, and that occasion was at the public book launch of former Attorney-General of the Federation, Mohammed Bello Adoke (SAN)”.

Fayemi however, acknowledged that he and Senator Kwankwaso have been friends since their time as governors, stressing that their relationship is personal and non-partisan.

The former Governor of Ekiti State further said that his friendship with Kwankwaso is based on mutual respect and a shared commitment to the progress of Nigeria, rather than on any political alignment.

He therefore cautioned against attempts by political actors to read partisan meaning into private relationships, stating that many of his friends and associates are not involved in partisan politics and have no desire to be drawn into it and those involved are not necessarily all of the same political persuasion.

“His friends span the entire spectrum of Nigeria’s political terrain,” the statement said.

The Fayemi Media Office reaffirmed Fayemi’s commitment to national unity, principled engagement, and responsible public discourse.
