FCT Senate: Labour Party, Kingibe Rejects Results’ Cancellation In Bwari
BY SEGUN ADEBAYO = The Labour Party (LP) Senatorial candidate for the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Ireti Kingibe, has rejected the cancellation of Saturday’s National Assembly election results from the Bwari Area Council of the capital territory.
She insisted that there was no incident of over-voting in the Area Council as claimed by the Collation Officers and wondered why the results should be cancelled outrightly.
Addressing journalists on her decision to lodge a complaint at the collation centre, Kingibe, who maintained that a mistake in the tabulation should not affect the electoral victory of a candidate, said; “I’ve been told that the person that was writing the figure made a mistake whether knowingly or unknowingly”.
According to her; “The person put two plus two equals five. And the judges (Collation Officials) said over-voting. The Electoral Officer (EO) said it was an error from the person that wrote the results, whether he did it on purpose or accidentally.
“All the result sheets show there was no over-voting in any of the polling units. So, why cancel the results of the entire area council? We are watching them. They’ve been looking for a reason to cancel all our strongholds and suddenly, they suddenly found an error but that can’t stand.
“They said it is not their job to look at the result sheets on over-voting. We have had enough. They said we should go to the polls, they want to impose people on us, but it will not work. The way this country is going, we’ve had enough”.
Ireti, who urged her supporters to remain calm over the delay in announcing the election results, stated that the margin of victory was too high for manipulation, adding that the delay in declaring the FCT Senatorial election results was due to pockets of violence recorded during the polls on Saturday.
