BY EDMOND ODOK, ABUJA – The Federal Government has ordered the closure of all land borders ahead of Saturday, March 9, 2019 governorship and State Houses of Assembly elections in the country.
Accordingly, the borders will remain closed from Friday, March 8 to Sunday. March 10. 2019.
The directive was announced by the Minister of Interior, Lt. General Abdulrahman Bello Dambazau (rtd) in a statement issued on Thursday in Abuja.
Signed by the Comptroller General of Nigerian Immigration Service, Muhammad Babandede, the statement said; “Further to the Gubernatorial/States Assembly elections taking place on Saturday, 9th March 2019, the Honourable Minister of Interior, Lt. General Abdurahman Bello Dambazau has directed the closure of all Nigerian Land borders with effect from 12 noon of Friday, 8 March to 12 noon of Sunday, 10th March 2019.”
The statement further explained that; “This is to restrict movement across the borders during the election days”, adding; “The public is to take note and ensure compliance.”
