The Federal Government on Friday ordered a probe into the clash between Senator Adams Oshiomhole and Nigerian airline, Air Peace.
Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, who gave the order for the probe on behalf of the Federal Government, urged the two parties involved in the clash to remain calm and provide evidence-based action to guide future aviation conduct.
Towards this end, Keyamo directed a thorough investigation into the altercation that took place between Senator Oshiomhole and Air Peace Airline’s management.
The Aviation Minister, who announced the probe in a statement released via X (formerly Twitter), said he had been in direct contact with both parties since the incident occurred on Wednesday, June 11, 2025.
Accordingly, he has instructed aviation agencies to exercise restraint and avoid hasty conclusions.
He further said; “In the wake of the incident at the Lagos Airport last Wednesday involving AIRPEACE Airline and His Excellency, Senator Adams Oshiomhole, I have been in direct contact with both parties since that morning.
“I also directed the aviation agencies to exercise restraint in jumping to conclusions in line with the time-honoured legal principle of ‘hear all sides’ before reaching judgment”.
He therefore urged both parties to suspend public accusations and counter-accusations while calling for calm.
In the words of Keyamo; “I am further directing the relevant aviation agencies to thoroughly look into the issue, collect all available evidence and revert to my office so we can deal with the issue in such a way as to guide future conduct in similar situations”.
The altercation reportedly commenced when Senator Oshiomhole, missed a scheduled Air Peace flight (P47120) which led him to react angrily
However, Air Peace Airline insisted that Oshiomhole arrived at Terminal 1 (Zulu Hall) at around 6:10 a.m., after boarding had closed, adding that the Edo North Senator became violent toward its staff members and also disrupted airport operations by blocking the terminal entrance and preventing other passengers from entering.
A statement by Air Peace further said that Oshiomhole went as far as sealing the entry gate and manning the access point, thereby effectively obstructed other passengers from gaining entry into the terminal.
Air Peace also said the incident caused operational delays, and had to activate a contingency plan to accommodate affected travellers through an alternate terminal.
While condemning what it described as “unruly and unacceptable” behaviour by a high-profile public official, Air Peace reiterated its zero-tolerance stance on violence and aggression toward staff or passengers.
The Aviation Minister’s intervention signalled an official review of the matter whose findings are expected to guide future handling of similar conflicts in Nigeria’s aviation sector.
