FG ‘ll Revoke Interior Ministry’s Ikoyi Property Sale – Tunji-Ojo
Following alleged lack of transparency that trailed the initial processes, the Federal Government has threatened to revoke the sale of residential quarters belonging to the Ministry of Interior in the Ikoyi area of Lagos.
According to reports, the revocation threat by government seeks to address to uncertainties over the affected property, the Ministry’s Ikoyi liaison residential quarters.
The Minister of Interior, Mr Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, expressed the government’s resolve to recover the property against the backdrop that details of the sale, including the date and buyer, were not made public.
Speaking during a tour of some Ministry facilities in Lagos, Tunji-Ojo promised to institute a panel to investigate the activities of the director who spearheaded the sale process alongside other officials of the Ministry.
Forefront News notes that the Federal Ministry of Justice, through the immediate past Attorney General of the Federation, Mr Abubakar Malami (SAN), had in 2020, commissioned an agent to identify and recover possession of landed properties belonging to the federal government across the country.
The property in question are those currently being used and occupied by unauthorised persons nationwide.
The Minister dropped the revocation hints during his visit to the Federal Marriage Registry (FMR), Immigration Service, and Ikoyi Correctional Centre in Lagos State.
He also hinted that the Ministry is seriously considering plans to relocate the Ikoyi Correctional Centre from its present location to a more conducive environment in line with global best practice.
