Fintiri Emerges Adamawa State Governor-elect As He Trashes Governor Bindo In Supplementary Poll

BY AMOS DUNIA, ABUJA – The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in the early hours of Friday declared the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Hon Ahmadu Fintiri as the winner of the Adamawa State governorship election.

The INEC Returning Officer for the election, Prof. Andrew Haruna, while declaring the results of the election in Yola, after the conduct and collation of the supplementary election in 44 polling units across 14 local government areas of the state, said Hon Fintiri polled a total of 376,552 votes to defeat incumbent Governor Jibrilla Bindow of the All Progressives Congress (APC), who polled 336,386 votes.

Prof Haruna also said that Senator Abdul-Azeez Nyako of the ADC recorded 113,237 votes to place third and was followed by Hon Emmanuel Bello of the SDP, who polled 29,792 votes.

The Returning Officer further said that total votes cast was 899,097, from which 871,307 votes were deemed valid while 27,790 votes were considered invalid.

The Governor-elect, Hon Fintiri was Speaker of the Adamawa House of Assembly in 2014 and later served as Acting Governor in July 2014 when the former governor of the State, Murtala Nyako was impeached.
