Former NYSC Boss, Gen Tsiga Regains Freedom From Kidnappers’ Den

Former Director-General of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Brigadier-General Maharazu Tsiga (rtd) has finally regained his freedom after spending 56 days in captivity.

General Tsiga was kidnapped on February 5, 2025, from his hometown in Bakori Local Government Area of Katsina State, alongside nine other residents by bandits.

Despite receiving a ransom from his family members, the kidnappers still held the retired General for additional weeks before finally releasing him.

Available reports indicate conflicting figures regarding the amount paid by his family as ransom with some claiming that about N60 million was paid for his freedom.

This is as competent sources indicated the actual sum paid as ransom was about three times higher than the quoted amount.

According to one family member, who preferred anonymity, after the ransom was paid, the General’s abductors kept mute for a week before letting him have access to communicate with his family.

He further said though the abductors later demanded additional payment, no further funds exchanged hands, adding that General Tsiga was eventually freed to re-unite with his family.

Hinting that the freed General is in good condition, reports further hinted that he may be have been on his way to Abuja from Zamfara State.

Meanwhile, confirmation of General Tsiga’s release by the kidnappers has also come from a senior military source while hinting that family members are overjoyed and relieved by his safe return from the abductors’ den
