Fresh Drama Loading As Court Summons Ex-Kogi Gov Yahaya Bello Over Alleged N110.4bn Fraud
- Another appearance date set for October 24
Baring fresh angles to what many commentators have described as a ‘circus show’, the many troubles of immediate past Kogi State Governor, Alhaji Yahaya Bello may not be abating soon.
Latest in this purported ‘drama series’ involving the self-acclaimed ‘White Lion’, is the official summon by a High Court of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) in Maitama that he should appear before it on October 24, 2024.
Served in this new plate for Alhaji Bello is a fresh 16-count charge brought against him by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
The anti-graft Agency is dragging Bello before the Court, alongside two others, Umar Oricha and Abdulsalami Hudu, over alleged criminal breach of trust involving the sum of N110.4 billion.
The three defendants were initially scheduled to take their plea on Thursday, October 3, 2024.
However, when the case was called for hearing, the EFCC told the court that all efforts to serve the ex-governor with the charge, filed on September 24, have been unsuccessful.
Responding to the EFCC’s information, Justice Maryanne Anenih issued a public summons, compelling Bello to voluntarily appear before the Court on the adjourned date for his arraignment.
The Court also directed the EFCC to publish the summons in a widely circulating national newspaper and to post copies at Bello’s last known address and in prominent locations within the court premises.
