BY SEGUN ADEBAYO – For peace to return within the All Progressives Congress (APC) family in Kano State, Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje has decided to abandon his Senatorial ambition for the 2023 general elections.

Accordingly, he has sued for peace within the party and appealed to all warring factions and aggrieved members to sheathe their swords and return to the negotiation table for reconciliation

Reports said following serious political horse trading to resolve the heightening crises rocking the State chapter of the ruling party, the governor agreed to swallow his pride and give Senator Barau Jibrin another shot at representing the Kano North Senatorial Zone in the red chamber come next year.

Coming on the heels of his sudden meeting with former Governor Ibrahim Shekarau last weekend, Ganduje is backing out of the race even after obtaining the Expression of Interest and Nomination forms to contest the seat in the forthcoming party primaries.

It was gathered that following series of meetings involving the Governor  Senator Jibrin andother key APC stakeholders in Abuja, an agreement was reached on a give and take arrangement with Ganduje accepting to relinquish his senatorial aspiration for the sake of peace and harmony within the party.

Speaking on the development, one insider told Forefront Online that; “Being a loyal party man, Governor Ganduje would not allow his personal ambition to destroy the APC going into next year’s polls.”

On his part, the hitherto aggrieved Senator Jibrin was persuaded to drop the threat of himself and his loyalists dumping the APC because the governor put a wedge in his 2023 gubernatorial ambition.

Insiders privy to the stakeholders’ interventions said arising from engagements across board to stop the defection galore that has become a daily occurrence in the Kano APC with many key players seeking solace in other parties to pursue their political ambitions, Governor Ganduje endorsed the decision to call a truce and allow some lawmakers, including former governor Shekarau and Barau Jibrin, return tickets to the Senate and House of Representatives to save the party from imminent electoral defeat.

Confirming the recent development, the APC State Secretary, Zakari Sarina said the happenings are outcomes of concrete agreements that have endorsement from the ruling party’s hierarchy in Abuja.

According to Sarina; “Yes, tangible understandings have been reached between the feuding groups and soon the public will know the position of things as they are in our great Party.”
