Gombe Easter Truck Accident Was A Deliberate Attack – Panel Of Inquiry

The committee set up by the Gombe State Government to investigate the tragic Easter Monday incident during which a truck ploughed into a Christian procession in Biliri Local Government Area of the State, has declared that it was a deliberate attack.

The panel which concluded its sitting submitted a report stating that the incident was not accidental, but a deliberate act by the driver of the truck.

The ad-hoc panel made up of both Christian and Muslim members, said that its findings indicated that the driver of the trailer truck carelessly rammed into the last batch of Christians participating in the Easter Monday procession leading to multiple fatalities and severe injuries.

The panel chaired by Rambi Ayala was mandated by the State Government to investigate the circumstances surrounding the event that left six people dead and dozens critically injured.

While announcing its findings, Ayala said; “The findings from the incident indicate that the trailer truck driver carelessly rammed into the last batch of Christians participating in the Easter procession leading to multiple fatalities and severe injuries.”

Ayala sad that the panel also carefully identified the victims, adding that a total of 36 persons were involved and at the moment 18 of them are still receiving treatment at the Federal Teaching Hospital and the Specialist Hospital in Gombe.

According to Ayala; “The six deceased victims include; Grace David, Clement Lakason, Ephraim Ibrahim, Faida P. Uslas, Rejoice Mela, and Praise Ayuba”.

The committee therefore recommended the upgrades of emergency medical infrastructure in the state.

The panel further said; “The government should consider constructing or renovating the current General Hospitals to help meet up with the growing health challenges in the area especially during emergencies like the instant case”.

It however, commended the swift response of government agencies and called for continued unity among the residents.
