Gombe Sallah Party: Police Parade 17 Hoodlums
BY WILLIAM ATTAH, GOMBE – The Gombe Stae Police command on Monday paraded no fewer than 17 hoodlums for various crimes perpetrated during the recently celebrated Eid-el-fitr Sallah.
The Commissioner of Police in the State, Mr. Ishola Babaitan, while parading the hoodlums before newsmen, said 14 of them were arrested after about 15 of them were sighted and armed with dangerous fabricated weapons around Government Day Secondary School, Kagarawal, in Gombe metropolis.
Babaitan said that one of the hoodlums escaped leaving 14 that were arrested and paraded, adding that the hoodlums most of whom were in their teens and early 20’s were said to have converged from Malam Inna Quarters and Kagarawal quarters with a view to cause mayhem.
The Gombe State police boss said that preliminary investigation by the his command revealed that they had a clash at a Sallah party in Deba which was organized by one of their members.
Babaitan said that the fallout led to attacks on unsuspected passersby numbering about ten who were on their legitimate business and are now receiving treatment.
The Commissioner of Police said the suspects will be charged to court for criminal conspiracy, being in possession of dangerous weapons, inciting public disturbance, aiding and abetting escape.
Exhibits recovered from the suspects included three fabricated metal rods, four machetes and one dagger.
Two others, Joseph Isah and Ahmed Adamu, both 18years were also paraded for criminal conspiracy, house breaking and theft.
They are a two man syndicate that specialized in house breaking and theft.
Exhibits recovered from them included one LG plasma TV, one HP computer laptop, two GSM handsets and one piece of curtain used for wrapping stolen items.
The Police Commissioner also paraded one Usman Adamu, 40years, form Gadam, Kwami LGA for stealing a Bajaj motorcycle using a fabricated master key outside a cinema house in Bajoga, Funakaye LGA of the State.
Exhibits recovered from him were one Bajaj motorcycle, red in colour with registration no. ABC 644VR and one fabricated master key.
He said all the suspects have confessed to the crime and will soon be charged to court for prosecution.
