In what looks like a revolt against their governor, members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), in Obingwa Local Government Area of Abia State, have vowed to remain solid behind the Presidential Candidate of the Party, Atiku Abubakar.
Obingwa Local Government Area of Abia State, is where Governor Okezie Ikpeazu hails from.
The position of the PDP members who are kinsmen of Governor Ikpeazu, is coming against the backdrop of the fact of his being a member of the Governor Nyesom Wike-led G-5 Governors who have refused to support Atiku, insisting on the resignation of the National Chairman of the PDP, Dr, Iyorchia Ayu.
The Wike-led G-5 Governors have taken a hard core position against the candidature of Atiku, saying that they would not support him unless and until Ayu resigns his position for a Southerner to take over to ensure equity in the party’s hierarchy.
However, the PDP in Ikpeazu’s Obingwa Local Government Area, have dared their son and declared that as faithful Party men and women, they have no option than to adopt Atiku and his running mate, Senator Ifeanyi Okowa as their choice for the 2023 presidential election.
Accordingly, the PDP members through their Local Government Chairman, announced that they would deploy every political arsenal at their political disposal to ensure total victory for Atiku at the polls in the entire area.
They insisted that the party is supreme in everything, stressing that they would not in any way be swayed by personal interest of some individuals hence, they would go out as a one united body to support the party’s flag bearer as part of their demonstration of the loyalty to the Party.
Announcing the decision of stakeholders and Party stalwart of the PDP at the Abala Primary School, Chairman of Party in Obingwa, Mr. Seth Agomuo, said that the members of the Party remain committed to the Party and would give their loyalt and unflinching support to Atiku and Okowa.
Agomuo specifically said that the PDP in the Local Government Area would not discriminate in giving their bloc votes to all candidates of the Party in the different categories of the elections.
He further said; “As a party chairman, and a true party man here in Obingwa, and a true party man, we are aware that candidates have emerged after contesting primary elections. Such candidates now belong to the party and the party will support them. That is the truth. “I am a true party man. Whether you love the candidate or not, that doesn’t matter as long as he emerged from a primary election conducted by the party.
“So, as far as I am concerned and as far as I am the PDP Chairman in Obingwa, we shall only vote for PDP candidates from Alhaji Atiku Abubakar to the Senate, House Representatives, Governor and State House of Assembly. We are PDP and that is our stand. Our party comes first before any other thing,” he stressed.
