Presidential Poll: Abuses Can’t Stop My Choice Of Candidate – Wike
BY ONYEKACHUKWU IBEZIM – Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers State says no amount of abuse and name-calling would make him change his mind about working for his preferred candidate in the February 25, 2023, presidential elections.
The Rivers Chief Executive said rather than engaging in brickbats and unproductive exchanges with his detractors, who have already lost focus, he would concentrate efforts on mobilising support for the candidate of his choice
Speaking at Egbeda Community while flagging off the construction of Akpabu-Egbeda-Omoku Link Road in Emohua Local Government Area on Wednesday, Governor Wike expressed surprise that people have decided to abandon the hectic political work waiting for them on the campaign trail to delight themselves in disparaging party’s leaders.
He said such behaviour would only attract dire political consequences because they would end up in bitter tears when the reality of their political losses would eventually stare them in the face after the elections
According to him; “If anybody likes, say what you want to say that I am working for so and so person, it’s their business. That will not make me change my mind about where we are heading to. Do you understand me?
“So, if they like, they can make speculations. After all, that is why the word, speculation is there. Some of them, who do not have 25 votes are busy abusing leaders. When you finished abusing leaders (us), you will pay dearly for it.”
Hinting that the ‘Integrity Group’ was fully on the ground in the political arena talking to the people and soliciting their votes, the outspoken PDP Governor said it had been established that only those, who bring development projects were qualified to reap the votes of the electorate.
He mocked his critics as paperweight politicians, saying; “We are here talking to our people, they are there in radio stations and television houses. We are here talking to our people. When you are finished, by that time, it’ll be too late.”
Governor Wike urged the people to be bold by asking such politicians when they come, “what did you bring for us?”; “You come with an empty hand, you will go with an empty hand”; “You come with projects, we give you votes”; “You come with promises, we give you promises”.
He appreciated the Egbeda community for the support given to his administration since coming into office in the year 2015
