Unknown Gunmen have reportedly killed the Senior Special Assistant on Security to Benue Governor, Samuel Ortom, in Jos, the Plateau State Capital.
He is retired Assistant Inspector-General of Police (AIG) Christopher Dega.
Reports said Dega was shot several times in the chest late on Tuesday, June 1, 2021, by the gunmen who only fled the scene after ensuring that he died on the spot.
The late Police chief had a brilliant career in the Nigerian Police Force (NPF), serving as Commissioner of Police in Borno and Edo States before his elevation to the post of AIG.
Dega was from Katsina Ala Local Government Area of Benue state.
Governor Orton had in March 2021 raised alarm over his security and safety after escaping an assassination attempt by some unidentified gunmen during an attack him in his farm at Tyomu Community along the Makurdi-Gboko road.
In the heat of that moment, the Inspector General of Police (IGP) had set up a high-powered team to investigate the case with the findings still being expected about three months after the incident.
