BY SEGUN ADEBAYO – The Governor of Benue State, Samuel Ortom of Benue State has ordered an investigation into allegations of rampant sexual abuse cases involving a male staff of the Federal Science and Technical College (FSTC), Otukpo

The Governor’s directive follows recent reports on social media that the unnamed male staff of the school, located in Otukpo Local Government Area of the state, has been sexually harassing and abusing female students with no action by the authorities to check his depraved activities.

According to the Benue State Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Mr Micheal Gusa, the governor’s moves is against the backdrop of an “online publication in which the author indicated that there were sexual assaults on female students of FSTC Otukpo by a staff of the college.”

He said based on the governor’s instructions, his office has already taken up the matter with the security agencies for proper investigation so that the culprit can be brought to justice.

Speaking in Makurdi on Tuesday, Mr Gusa said; “This is a threat to our female children who are in the school; it does not speak well of our society and it also does not speak well of the future of the girl child for staff of such a school to engage in assaulting them.

“So in compliance with the directive, we have written a complaint to the Commissioner of Police and also to the Director, Department of State Services (DSS) to carry out a discrete investigation into the matter to ascertain the veracity of the allegation.

“We want the society to know that Government’s attention has been drawn to it and we have taken up the matter to ensure that justice is done in the circumstance.”

Reliable sources said this is the second time an allegation of sexual assault of female students in the school has reared its ugly head and the unnamed staff member is being accused of raping a 16-year-old SSS 3 student.
