BY COBHAM NSA – Governors of Borno and Yobe states, Babagana Umara Zulum and Mai Mala Buni have joined the train of latest stakeholders to embrace the Hajj Savings Scheme in their respective states.

Like others, the two governors have expressed confidence that the scheme will succour to individuals who hitherto had financial challenges performing the annual hajj and meeting other needs

In Maiduguri, Borno state capital, Governor Zulum said reiterated his administration’s support for programmes with positive economic impact on the public such as Hajj Savings Scheme.

He said all Muslim ummah now have the opportunity of answering the call to Hajj as one of the pillars of Islam, adding that all stakeholders must therefore publicise the Scheme in the overall best interest of all intending pilgrims.

Represented by the Commissioner of Religious Affairs, Abacha Umar, the governor said the Scheme is capable of transforming hajj operations and ensuring it meets all necessary international standards and global best practices.

Also in Damaturu, Yobe state capital, the governor, Mala Buni said his administration will provide all supports needed to ensure the saving scheme succeeds in the state.

He extolled Jaiz Bank’s commitment to open its Damaturu Branch soon, noting that the arrangement would provide alternative solutions to the people in their financial transactions.

Likewise, the governor praised the National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON) and Yobe State Hajj Commission for their tireless efforts in ensuring pilgrims’ welfare keeps improving year after year.

In his remarks, the Managing Director, Jaiz Bank Plc, Hassan Usman said with the Scheme’s take-off, NAHCON and states pilgrims’ welfare boards can have liquid funds required to effectively plan hajj operations early, thereby securing enhanced bargain for accommodation and other services for their pilgrims.

Usman, who was represented by North East Regional Manager, Baba Njidda and Head of Corporate Communications of the bank, Halima Ishaq in Yobe and Borno respectively, said Jaiz is committed to the noble journey of helping pilgrims.

“We are ready to support it with best-in-class technology infrastructure as well as safe investment management practice”, he said

On his part, the Executive Chairman, Yobe Hajj Commission, Alhaji Bukar Kime said the ongoing high powered sensitisation and training by NAHCON and Jaiz Bank, the success of the scheme is fully assured.

For the NAHCON Chairman, Barister Zikilullah Kunle Hassan, represented by the Commissioner in charge of North East, Abba Jato, introducing the Scheme is part of deliberate efforts at transforming the hajj operations for efficiency and cost reduction.
